A big leak from an irrigation pipe that had broken under a tree, where the roots had grown into it. Patching the pipe in the same spot would have broken again, so we repaired the line and rerouted it around the root system so it will not happen again.
We installed path lights along the walkways and uplighting to feature the trees and plantings, so the yard is easy to walk at night and looks good from the house.
San Ramon has two water providers. Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) serves the Dougherty Valley area, and East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) serves most of the rest of the city. Your water bill tells you which one you have, and it matters because the rebates and the fine print differ.
EBMUD customers are under EBMUD's permanent water-use rules. Irrigation must not cause more than incidental runoff onto neighboring property, hard surfaces or areas that are not irrigated. There is no watering during or within 48 hours after measurable rain, and a system with a measurable leak must not be turned back on until it is repaired.
Dougherty Valley homes follow DSRSD's District Code, which prohibits leaks and irrigation runoff at all times, with tighter watering-hour limits only if the district declares a shortage stage.
Dougherty Valley homes are served by DSRSD. Most of the rest of San Ramon is on EBMUD. The name on your water bill settles it.
It will if the pipe is patched in the same spot. When we fixed a root-damaged line in San Ramon, we rerouted it to bypass the roots so the repair would last.
If you are on EBMUD, yes: EBMUD currently offers rebates on smart controllers, spray-to-drip conversion, high-efficiency nozzles, flow sensors and pressure regulators. Dougherty Valley homes on DSRSD go through Zone 7, which is currently waitlisting applications.
Watering that runs onto sidewalks, driveways or a neighbor's property is prohibited, and so is watering within 48 hours after rain. A leaking system has to be repaired before it is turned back on, so a broken line is worth fixing quickly.
